The Growing Season...... at Gould Hill Orchards

No matter what the season, the apple trees are always growing...

The spring air is filled with the smell of flowering apple blossoms.  Millions of bees are "hired" to buzz around the fields and pollinate our 85 varieties of apples.  And, you will often see a small piece of Ivory soap tied around a sapling tree to keep the deer from nibbling on the buds (so we can all enjoy apples at harvest).  The summer leaves the orchard most dependent on the spirit of Mother Nature and her whims of rain, heat, drought, and hail.  We work hard to protect the apples and trees from bugs using an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategy to produce the highest quality fruit.

Fall and Winter
Apple harvest begins in early August and extends into late October, with most of the apples ripening while fall foliage is most beautiful.  This makes autumn a very special and exciting time at Gould Hill for those of us here, and those who visit.  Visitors from far and near come in the fall to picnic on the hilltop or have a family gathering to pick apples while enjoying the fall colors.
